What Do the Top Natural Skin Care Products Have in Common?

If you do a search for the top natural skin care products, you'll see lots of different advice. One thing that most sources have in common is the recommendation of sunscreen use. What they don't tell you is how to choose the right one. That's just one of the things that you'll learn about in this article.
The sunscreens on the market vary greatly, in terms of safety and effectiveness. Studies indicate that certain sun-screening chemicals actually increase a person's risk of skin cancer. Researchers advise that the sunscreens oxybenzone and benzophenone should be avoided. They are derivatives of benzene, a known human carcinogen.
The best broad-spectrum sun block is zinc oxide. It is a naturally occurring compound that is found in some of the better women's cosmetics. But, the truth is, we should all be careful how much time we spend in the sun, whether we use a sun block or not. 10-15 minutes per day is fine for most people. But, try to play in the shade, whenever possible.
Experts agree that the top natural skin care products do not contain ethylene oxide and it should not be used during the manufacturing process. Recent lab testing in California revealed that four different cleansers, labeled organic, contained 1,4 Dioxane, which is listed as a known carcinogen in the California safety database.
Dioxane is not added to cleansers, it forms as a byproduct when ethylene oxide, a petrochemical, is used to reduce the harshness of soaps and detergents. Over 50 different cosmetic ingredients have been associated with the formation of Dioxane. Two of the most common are sodium laurel sulfate and polyethylene glycol.
Of course, the top natural skin care products do not contain those chemicals, but there are no regulations concerning what are and what are not naturally occurring compounds. It's best to look for cosmetics that contain plant-based oils, nutrients and non-toxic pigments.
You must remember that natural does not always mean safe. Toxic lead is a naturally occurring substance, found in rocks and soil. Its use in cosmetics has been banned in the European Union, but in the US, it is still found in hair dyes, lipstick and other beauty aids.
Something else that the experts agree on is this. The top natural skin care products are free of added fragrances. Chemical fragrances are obviously a "no-no". But, even plant fragrances can cause irritation, especially if they are concentrated. When you see ingredients like linalool, rosewater, lavender or "essential oil", those are naturally occurring fragrances, but they are also common allergens.
So, just what can a good skincare product do for you, anyway? On that subject the experts don't always agree. Some sources say that we cannot delay the aging process. But, the latest scientific research indicates that we can.
The major cause of an aged appearance is oxidative damage caused by free radicals. Antioxidants prevent and repair free radical damage. So, the top natural skin care products contain lots of different antioxidants, including coenzyme Q10. You might want to learn more about what that little ingredient can do for you.
